How to Set Up Stealth Mode in 60 Seconds

From download to live AI coaching in six simple steps. No complex configuration, no API keys needed to start.

1

Download PrepPilot

Head to the download page and grab the installer for your platform. Available for Windows (.msi), macOS (.dmg for both Intel and Apple Silicon), and Linux (.AppImage or .deb).

Tip: The download is under 25MB. If your browser blocks it, check your downloads folder or allow the file in your browser settings.
2

Install the App

On Windows, double-click the .msi installer and follow the prompts. On macOS, open the .dmg and drag PrepPilot to your Applications folder. On Linux, make the .AppImage executable and run it, or install the .deb with your package manager.

macOS users: If you see a security warning, go to System Preferences → Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway." This is normal for apps downloaded outside the App Store.
3

Create Your Free Account

Launch PrepPilot and sign up with your email. No credit card required. You immediately receive 50 free AI credits that let you use Stealth Mode across several full interviews.

4

Click the Stealth Overlay Icon

In the PrepPilot sidebar, look for the eye icon labeled "Stealth Mode." Click it to launch the floating overlay. A semi-transparent window appears on top of all other windows, visible only to you.

Tip: Drag the overlay to your preferred position. Many users place it near the bottom of their screen or beside the video call window. You can also resize it by dragging the corners.
5

Grant Audio Permissions

When prompted, allow PrepPilot to capture system audio. This permission is required for Deepgram to transcribe what your interviewer says in real time. On macOS, you may need to grant microphone access in System Preferences.

Privacy note: Audio is streamed to Deepgram for transcription only. It is never recorded or stored. See our privacy page for details.
6

Join Your Interview — You're Live

Open Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or any conferencing tool and join your interview. Stealth Mode automatically starts transcribing the conversation and generating AI-powered suggested responses in the overlay. You are ready.

Troubleshooting

Overlay not appearing?

Make sure PrepPilot is running and you have clicked the stealth overlay icon in the sidebar. On some Linux window managers, you may need to enable "always on top" window support. Try restarting the app if the overlay does not appear after clicking.

No transcription showing?

Check that you have granted audio capture permissions. On macOS, go to System Preferences → Privacy & Security → Microphone and ensure PrepPilot is listed and enabled. Also verify your internet connection is active, as transcription requires connectivity.

AI responses are slow or missing?

Slow responses usually indicate a slow internet connection or using a heavier AI model. Switch to Claude Haiku or GPT-4o-mini for the fastest response times. Also check that you have remaining credits (visible in the app sidebar).

Overlay visible in screen share?

On most platforms, the overlay is excluded from screen sharing. If it appears in your share, try using "Share specific window" instead of "Share entire screen" in your conferencing app. This ensures only the meeting window is shared.

macOS security warning?

Go to System Preferences → Privacy & Security. Scroll down and click "Open Anyway" next to the PrepPilot warning. This only needs to be done once. The app is signed and open source.

Pro Tips for Best Results

Use Headphones

Wearing headphones prevents echo and gives Stealth Mode cleaner audio to transcribe, resulting in more accurate transcriptions and better AI responses.

Set Your Context

Before the interview, tell Stealth Mode the role and company in the settings. This helps the AI generate more relevant, role-specific responses.

Practice First

Run a test with a friend or by playing a YouTube mock interview. This helps you get comfortable reading the overlay while speaking naturally.

Choose the Right Model

For real-time speed, use Claude Haiku or GPT-4o-mini. For deeper, more nuanced responses where a slight delay is acceptable, use Claude Sonnet or GPT-5.3.
