Why Does PrepPilot Work on Every Platform?

Most interview assistants run as browser extensions, which means their overlays exist within the browser's rendering context. When a screen-sharing tool captures the browser window, it captures the extension overlay too.

PrepPilot takes a fundamentally different approach. It is a native desktop application built with Tauri and Rust. The overlay window uses OS-level flags (SetWindowDisplayAffinity on Windows, CGWindowSharingType on macOS) that tell the operating system to exclude it from all screen capture operations.

This means any application that uses standard screen capture APIs — whether it is Zoom, Teams, Meet, or any future platform — cannot see the overlay. It is the same technology used to protect DRM content from screen recording.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Stealth Mode work with Zoom screen sharing?
Yes. The PrepPilot overlay is invisible to Zoom whether you share your entire screen, a specific window, or a browser tab. It works with both the Zoom desktop app and the browser version.
What about recording software like OBS?
By default, the overlay is also invisible to recording software like OBS that uses standard capture APIs. However, OBS has a specific capture mode (Game Capture with specific settings) that may capture protected windows. Standard Display Capture and Window Capture will not see the overlay.
Does it work with phone interviews?
If you are on a phone call at your computer with the audio coming through speakers or headphones, PrepPilot can still capture and transcribe the audio. For phone-only interviews away from your computer, PrepPilot is not applicable.
Will PrepPilot work on future video platforms?
Yes. Because PrepPilot uses OS-level window capture exclusion, it will work with any future platform that uses standard screen capture APIs. No updates or patches are needed for new platforms.
Does it work on Chromebooks?
PrepPilot requires a full desktop operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). ChromeOS does not support native desktop applications. If your Chromebook supports Linux, you can use the Linux version.
